✓ A referral letter from your GP or treating specialist (required for a Medicare Rebate)
A referral from your GP will be valid for 12 months from your initial visit.
A referral from a specialist will be valid for 3 months from your initial visit.

✓ Your Medicare card and any concession card
✓ Your medication list
✓ Any relevant investigation such as blood test, scans and x-rays
✓ Any previous medical correspondence related to your medical condition
✓ Your blood sugar record book and glucometer if you are a pre-existing diabetic. If you have recently diagnosed with diabetes, DO NOT WORRY! We will guide you through this process.
We recognise that your time is valuable, and we make every effort to run on time. Occasionally emergencies occur or patients require a little more time. These cause scheduling delays beyond our control and we sincerely apologise in the event we keep you waiting.

Consultation Fees
At the time you make your appointment, you will be advised of the consultation fees and how much you can get back from Medicare.
Unfortunately we are not a bulk billing practice and all consultations will attract a fee.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation or rescheduling request within 48 hours of the scheduled appointment will incur a cancellation fee of $100.
Cancellation or rescheduling within 48 hours or non-attendance may result in forfeiture of the full consultation fee.
If a pre-payment has been taken and cancellation has been made more than 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment you will receive a full refund or credit toward a future appointment.
Tele-health consultation
We offer tele-health consultation for our follow up appointments (please discuss with your treating doctor)
Telehealth appointments require full pre-payment, our receptionist will call you one day before or morning of your telehealth appointment.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book an appointment with South Sydney Medical Specialists +
- A referral from your GP will be valid for 12 months from your initial visit. (If your referral is more than 12 months old at the time of your appointment, you will be required to obtain an updated referral prior to your appointment)
- A referral from a Specialist will be valid for 3 months from your initial visit. (If your referral is more than 6 months old at the time of your appointment, you will be required to obtain an updated referral prior to your appointment)
- If you do not have Medicare, you may not need a referral.
- Give us a call in either office and we will try to find you the earliest appointment date.
- Some of the referrals will be triaged. You can email your referral to reception@southsydneymedicalspecialists.com.au
- If one of the doctors think that your condition is serious, we will try to fit you in earlier.
Prescription for Medication/s Policy +
- Our specialists prescribe only medications relevant to your consultation and their specialty. Medications outside this scope should be arranged with your GP.
- A repeat prescription will only be issued following a formal consultation (in-person or via telehealth) with your treating doctor.
Blood test request/add on Policy +
Our specialists will only order tests relevant to your consultation and referral. Additional or routine blood tests should be arranged through your GP.
Is there patient parking at South Sydney Medical Specialists +
Unfortunately, we do not have parking for patients, but we do have a lot of free parking around us. Please ask our friendly receptionists when you make the booking.
Do I need to pay for my consultation at the time of my appointment? +
Our receptionists will quote you a fee when you make the booking. You will be able to get a substantial Medicare rebate back after paying for your consultation fee.
Does South Sydney Medical Specialists Bulk Bill? +
Unfortunately we are not a bulk billing practice and all consultations will attract a fee.
Do I need blood test or scans prior to my appointment? +
Your GP will generally organise some basic blood test or scan prior to your scheduled appointment. Please bring them along and we will add on extra investigations if there is a clinical need for it. Our specialists will only order tests relevant to your consultation and referral for your next follow up visit. Additional or routine blood tests should be arranged through your GP.
Does South Sydney Medical Specialists treat children? +
It will depend on case by case. Please call us and our friendly receptionists will get back to you.
Will I receive a rebate back from my health fund? +
Unfortunately, you will not receive a rebate from your health fund. This is only applicable for in hospital services.
How long will I need to allow at my appointment? +
Please allow approximately 30 mins to 1 hour for your initial consultation and 15-30 minutes for your follow up consultation. Our doctors will try their best to be on time, but please understand that patient condition varies and we sometimes cannot account for it. Please allow at least 15-30 mins waiting time.
Do I need to arrive early for my appointment? +
Please arrive 10 minutes early for your initial consultation as we will require for you to complete a new patient information form.
