For GPs and Specialists who would like to refer a patient to South Sydney Medical Specialists:
From the moment you or your patient calls to make an appointment, our friendly receptionists will assist in guiding you as to which specialist would be the most suitable and available for your patient.
All referrals will be triaged and give preference accordingly.
Urgent referrals (pregnancy-related endocrine disorders, newly diagnosed diabetes and thyrotoxicosis) will be seen as soon as possible especially upon discussion.
We will also quote an estimate of the fees payable on the day of consultation. It highly depends on the complexity of the case and the duration of the consultation. The gap payment is the same for both short and long consultation.
At the consultation, our specialist will tailor the consultation to your patients needs and condition, with the necessary tests organise for the next follow up visit. Treatment can be commence on the day of consultation especially patient with elevated blood glucose level, e.g insulin start. Our consultants are very self-sufficient which save patient time and money to see another allied health member unless the they have type 1 diabetes, where they will benefit from a multidisciplinary team approach.
Correspondence outlining the findings and any treatment necessary will be sent shortly following the consultation.

We can almost always see patients requiring urgent care within a few days and may be able to give immediate advice to the referring doctor over the phone if required.
